Aaaand we're back...
« on: April 17, 2008, 08:04:55 AM »

Maybe I should start with a recap for the sake of anyone who wasn't around to see CC. Well here goes.

Lex and I started Cartridge Comics in August of 2005. Lex and I were both extremely new to writing, drawing, and webcomics in general. The comic started out as parodies of various pop culture icons, mostly ones from the late 80s/early 90s. As the comic went on, however, several running characters became popular with readers, so we kept bringing them back. Most notable of these are Emo-Spider and Jerry. Eventually we began to get bored of writing straight-up parody, so we began to focus more on the original characters. However, despite the original characters returning more frequently and increasing in number, the comic remained very much a gag-a-day style strip. Eventually, it got to the point that Lex and I were writing story arcs examining nerd culture, and then struggling to cram a punchline into each strip in the arc. That's when I became clear to us that we'd outgrown Cartridge Comics, and had lost interest in writing gag strips. We had created a small cast of interesting characters with personalities and stories behind them, but the gag format was forcing them to remain as joke-telling machines. We decided to end Cartridge Comics, and take some time off to decide what we were going to do about this problem. Cartridge Comics ended on November 19, 2007.

On February 1st, 2008, the comic was reborn as Cartridge, with improved art and an extremely different tone in writing. Cartridge is the story of Evan, Milton, and Jerry, three friends who share a common interest in nerdy pastimes. There is humor in the comic, but it no longer adheres to the "setup setup punchline" format of a gag strip. With this new format, Lex and I are able to make the comic as funny as we want, without limiting our ability to develop the characters and write interesting stories. We hope you enjoy the comic, we've got plenty of surprises in store for you.
